NATIONAL LEVEL SURVEY RESEARCH/ MAPPING
THE WORLD BANK. ENTERPRISE SURVEY IN NEPAL
The goal of the survey in Nepal was to gather information and opinions about the investment climate in the country, to help develop new policies and programs to enhance employment and economic growth. The survey, commissioned by The World Bank, is implemented in more than 104 countries around the globe. The aim is to generate microeconomic information which is used to identify projects and development policies around the world. The survey collected information from 480 formal enterprises and 120 informal enterprises across Nepal. In addition to this 360 employee interviews were also conducted from among the sampled enterprises. THE WORLD BANK. MAPPING OF MICROFINANCE INSTITUTIONS IN NEPAL
Solutions Consultant in association with Total Management Services (TMS) was involved in a World Bank commissioned study on Mapping of microfinance institutions in Nepal. The main purpose of the assignment was to develop a comprehensive mapping of microfinance sector which includes regional development banks, micro-finance institutions, financial NGOs, and cooperatives. The output of this assignment will provide inputs to finalize the microfinance policy and the design of the new legal/ regulatory and supervisory framework for the microfinance sector identifying an indicator for regulation and supervision.
GTZ-INCLUDE. BASELINE STUDY ON LOCAL REGIONAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT (LRED), ENABLING BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT FOR SMEs
Solutions Consultant in GTZ-INCLUDE commissioned baseline study on Local-Regional Economic Development evaluated current levels of business opportunity at household level and environment for the same. The study also looked to explore on the business enabling environment for SMEs in the study districts. Based on these findings, it was planned to explore and develop intervention areas and monitoring indicators for the programme.
THE WORLD BANK. GETTING RETAIL FINANCIAL SERVICES INITIATIVE
The objective of the study was to collect information on availability of a spectrum of retail financial services through the principal commercial banks of a country, and to understand how such services could be expanded or strengthened. Solutions Consultant conducted research activities in Nepal and Bangladesh. The study in Bangladesh was conducted with the support from SRG Bangladesh.
THE WORLD BANK. ACCESS TO FINANCIAL SERVICES
Solutions Consultant in association with Total Management Services (TMS) was involved in a World Bank commissioned study on Access to Financial Services. This study seeks to evaluate the present levels of access to financial services. Based on these findings, it will explore options for increased future access to financial services in Nepal. It is envisioned that this will launch a process of measuring financial access in Nepal for assessing access from the point of view of users - households - in 30 urban and 30 rural areas, through a survey of 1,800 individuals.
LFS FINANCIAL SERVICES GmbH / ASIAN DEVELOPMENT BANK . ENTERPRISE SURVEY
Solutions Consultant undertook the management of field works for a market study undertaken by LFS Financial Services GmbH on behalf of Asian Development Bank. The enterprise survey was conducted among 300 small and medium enterprises in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Birgunj.

PROJECT ASSESSMENTS/ EVALUATIONS
UNFPA/NEPAL. MID TERM PROJECT REVIEW
Solutions Consultant carried out mid-term review (MTR) of Delivering Essential Reproductive Health Care for Women, Men and Adolescents of Mid and Far Western Districts of Nepal through Mobile Reproductive Health Camps, funded by Danish Government. The mid term review was carried out across 5 project districts in Nepal and focussed on measuring the project achievements, key issues concerning project implementation and recommendations to ensure quality and achievement of project targets.
UNFPA/NEPAL. EVALUATION OF PROJECT ON DELIVERING EMERGENCY REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH SERVICES TO CONFLICT AFFECTED POPULATIONS
The evaluation study was geared towards assessing the project on delivering reproductive health services to the conflict affected populations of Nepal funded by ECHO. The study is being conducted in 3 project districts of Bajhang, Bajura and Jumla.
MAXPRO. EVALUATION OF "SPRINKLES" PROGRAMME, A NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENT FOR CHILDREN
The programme evaluation was focussed towards assessing the pilot project of "Sprinkles", a micro nutrient supplement for children across two districts of Nepal. The study looked into communication aspect of the programme, a basic consumer opinion study and assessment of the programme modalities. The study was expected to provide important inputs for actual launch of the product across Nepal.
UNICEF/ NEPAL. MID-TERM ASSESSMENT STUDY FOR AVIAN FLU PROGRAMME
The earlier formative research on avian flu provided the basis for formulating the objectives, plan effective communication strategies, design appropriate messages/materials and select media channels. This mid-term study was geared towards assessing the project on avian flu and its activities, as well as provide for new indicators and data after the implementation of the programme.
DANIDA-HUGOU. EVALUATION OF INCLUSION AND EMPOWERMENT PROJECTS
The scope of work comprised of evaluation of Inclusion and Empowerment Projects Implemented by Holistic Development Centre (Samagra), Lawyer'sNational Campaign against Untouchability (LANCAU) and Nepal Dalit Jagaran Kendra (NDJK). The projects were funded by DanidaHUGOU in Nepal and spread across central and western Hills and Terai regions of Nepal.
CHEMONICS INTERNATIONAL. YOUTH ACTIVITIES IMPACT ASSESSMENT
Solutions Consultant conducted an impact assessment to determine whether or not the current course being followed by USAID/OTI in targeting youth at the grassroots level is successfully engaging targeted youth in positive peace building roles. Public Link to Report
UNFPA/ NEPAL. FINAL ASSESSMENT OF ACHIEVEMENTS, EFFECTIVENESS AND IMPACT OF REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH INITIATIVE FOR YOUTH IN ASIA IN NEPAL
Solutions Consultant conducted the final assessment on achievements, effectiveness and impact of Reproductive Health Initiative for Youth in Asia, Nepal Program (RHIYA/Nepal) on behalf of United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA). The main objective of the study was to assess the overall achievements, results/impact of the RHIYA Nepal, and provide recommendations for future actions and optimal utilisation of experiences and results under the next or upcoming phase of the RHIYA or any similar programme on ASRH to produce the final assessment report of the RHIYA Nepal.
EQUAL ACCESS NEPAL/ DIGITAL BROADCAST INITIATIVES. PROGRAM ASSESSMENT (BASELINE AND ENDLINE STUDIES)
Solutions Consultant-Research Works was involved in assessment of the program through baseline and end line study of Radio Listeners' groups established by Equal Access/ Digital Broadcast Initiative. The general objective of this baseline study was to provide status on key indicators as well as provide measurable indicators to assess the project after completion.
NEPAL FAMILY HEALTH PROGRAM (NFHP). ASSESSMENT OF COFP/C TRAINED PROVIDERS
Solutions Consultant conducted an assessment of Comprehensive Family Planning and Counselling (COFP/C) trained service providers for National Health Training Centre (NHTC) on behalf of Nepal Family Health Program (NFHP). The main objective of the study was to assess the performance of the quality of care and counselling provided by the COFP/ C trained health personnel. The assessment covered 12 districts spread over 5 development regions of Nepal and included assessment of 80 health facilities
UNICEF/ NEPAL. ASSESSMENT OF CB-IMCI PROGRAMME IN KASKI AND TANAHU
Solutions Consultant, conducted a monitoring and evaluation of Health Facilities and the Health personnel in conjunction with the implementation of the Integrated Management of Child Illness (IMCI) for UNICEF in November-December, 2003. The survey was conducted in the 2 districts of Nepal covering 46 health facilities. The research was focused on the impact assessment of the IMCI in Kaski district where IMCI program has been implemented for several years and the current baseline status for Tanahu, where IMCI is yet to be implemented
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH PROJECT, NEPAL (EHP/ NEPAL). RAPID ASSESSMENT OF KALA-AZAR PROGRAMME
The main purpose of the research study was to rapidly assess the awareness of Kala-azar brought through interventions carried out at VDCs of Dhanusha and Mahottari districts in Nepal. The study helped to determine: the awareness and knowledge level about Kala-azar regarding, signs and symptoms, sandfly as vector, availability of free treatment and knowledge, attitude and behavior towards care-seeking.

DEVELOPMENT SECTOR SURVEYS/ SOCIAL RESEARCH
UNFPA/ NEPAL. RAPID NEEDS ASSESSMENT (RNA) STUDY OF DELIVERING ESSENTIAL REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH CARE
The RNA was commissioned to assess the essential reproductive health care need for Women, Men and Adolescents of Mid and Far Western Districts of Nepal. The study comprised of visits to select districts in the mid and far western regions districts of Nepal. The study provided the inputs towards providing information and basis for formulating relevant programmes and projects to address the RH needs of the regions.
UNICEF/ NEPAL. BASELINE/ SOCIO-BEHAVIOURAL STUDY FOR AVIAN FLU
Due to a general lack of information on avian influenza and related subjects in Nepal, a formative research was carried out to assess knowledge, attitudes and practices that have both positive and negative impact on the behaviours of the communities at risk. In addition to studying individual behaviours, information on factors that affects individual behaviour was also looked into during the study. The results of this formative research acted as the inputs in formulating the objectives, plan effective communication strategies, design appropriate messages/materials and select media channels.
CARE NEPAL. END LINE SURVEY OF CHILD SURVIVAL PROJECT (CS XIX)
Solutions Consultant conducted end line survey of CS Project of Care Nepal implemented in 4 far-western region districts of Nepal, namely, Kanchanpur, Dadeldhura, Bajhang and Doti. The main objective of end line study was to estimate the present levels of maternal and child indicators at household and community levels and to compare the progress against the baseline result carried out by the project.
UNICEF/ NEPAL. BASELINE SURVEY FOR HOUSEHOLD BASED DRINKING WATER TREATMENT
Solutions Consultant conducted the baseline study for household based drinking water treatment methods. The research was conducted in the four districts of Panchthar, Parsa, Kapilbasthu and Dang. The primary purpose of the research was to provide the client with insights needed to design an effective intervention program including a communication strategy to promote the various options for treatment of drinking water in households, with a focus on the preferred choice as an effective means to prevent diarrhoea. The research included product trials among the selected households for assessing the preferred choice of household based drinking water treatment.
AED/ ENPHO. SCHOOL POU DRINKING WATER TREATMENT EFFECTIVENESS RESEARCH
The general objective of the study was to conduct research on school-level POU drinking water treatment options and identify the most suitable ones for schools under the UNICEF/USAID - POU Drinking Water Treatment Project. This study was to provide a programming guidance for scale-up to other schools in Nepal.
NEPAL FAMILY HEALTH PROGRAM. FOCUSED ETHNOGRAPHIC STUDY ON ACUTE RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS (ARI)
Solutions Consultant conducted a focused ethnographic study on ARI in 4 districts of Nepal, Chitwan, Makwanpur, Sunsari and Morang. The ethnographic study covered the five caste/ethnic groups: Brahmin/Chhetri, Musahar, Tharu, Tamang and Muslim in the abovementioned districts. The main purpose of the study was to explore the management of ARI and recognition and interpretation of ARI signs and symptoms in a holistic and descriptive manner in five communities and existing health care system in these communities. Health-seeking practices and prevailing perception at the community regarding management of ARI and care providers was also studied. The traditional care seeking practices existing in the community were explored. In addition, the study also dealt with the perception of the community to access health care providers keeping in mind the importance of providers in delivering the integrated services to reduce childhood morbidity and mortality at the community level. Public Link to Report
SOALTEE GROUP (P.) LTD (KAVRE PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP PILOT). BASELINE SURVEY (KAP)
Solutions Consultant, conducted a KAP survey for Soaltee Group (P.) Ltd. for Kavre Public Private Partnership Program on health, education and irrigation sectors. The client was interested in establishing a private sector presence in the sectors of Education, health and Irrigation in Nepal, previously carried out by government or semi-government agencies at a subsidized rate. The research was conducted in 14 VDCs of Kavre District, with over 700 respondents in 7 days. The survey identified the market drivers and service gaps. It also was able to identify local and cultural attitudes and supply patterns. The client was able to focus on key issues to be included in their business planning.
POPULATION SERVICES INTERNATIONAL, NEPAL (PSI/NEPAL). BASELINE SURVEY FOR SEXUAL BEHAVIOR AMONG YOUTH
Solutions Consultant, conducted a research for Population Service International/ Nepal for a study on sexual behavior among youth in Nepal. The research was conducted among people in the age group of 15-24 years old. The data were collected from Kathmandu Valley, Hilly districts, and Terai districts - Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Dolkha, Sindhupalchowk, Kavre, Morang, Sunsari, Parsa and Rupandehi. The research used individual interviews as the technique to collect data and information. The research was based on responses from 4,087 respondents across the aforementioned districts. The study time involved total of 14 days from commissioning of research to top-line data presentation.
SOALTEE GROUP (P.) LTD (KAVRE PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM). NEED ASSESSMENT
Solutions Consultant-Research Works, conducted in conjunction with the above mentioned KAP survey for Soaltee Group carried out a need assessment for Kavre Public Private Partnership Program on health, education and irrigation sectors. The research was conducted in 14 VDCs of Kavre District, with residents of these villages. The research goal was to identify the gaps in the current service delivery mechanism for health, education and irrigation. The current requirements and future requirements were identified for validating the actual need for public private partnership to deliver services in the above mentioned sectors.

SNV NEPAL. COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS OF PRODUCING GREEN TEA LEAF FOR ORTHODOX TEA
The objective of this assignment was to conduct cost benefit analysis of green tea leaves produced through organic and conventional cropping regime by small holder farmers by district in Ilam and Dhankuta. The assignment involved development of simple template on which farmers could put in their input costs to calculate their cost of production.
SNV NEPAL. DEVELOPMENT OF INCLUSIVE BUSINESS PLAN FOR ORGANIC APPLES
Development of Inclusive Business Plan for organic apples produced in Jumla district for OWF. The work was assigned by SNV Nepal as part of their inclusive business initiatives to impact the lives of apple farmers in Jumla district.
GTZ-PSPP. PRELIMINARY BASELINE FOR PRO-POOR SUSTAINABLE TOURISM INTERVENTIONS
Solutions Consultant was involved in providing preliminary baseline for PPST interventions among HAN and TAAN members by GTZ in Nepal. The study incorporated value chain and supply sourcing analysis of the sector and its firms. Impact indicators were developed with the support of GTZ Private Sector Promotion Project and SNV PPST advisors.

Solutions Consultant undertook value chain analysis study for 4 sub-sectors honey, herbs, bamboo, and tea. The study incorporated estimation of the outputs and employment and value chain analysis. Each of these sub-sectors were looked into separately to provide an overview on the value chain and employment generation in each of the sub-sectors.
GTZ-PSPP. ASSESSING COMPETITIVENESS OF SUB-SECTORS
Solutions Consultant conducted sub-sector studies for GTZ-PSPP, specifically on honey, herbs, bamboo, tea and handicraft. The study was focussed on assessing the competitiveness of each of the sub sectors in relation to set of pre-defined indicators.

SAVE THE CHILDREN/USA. TRAINING MANUALS ON ORGANISATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
SANDEEP, a project initiated by Save the Children USA for capacity building of NGOs in Nepal. The consulting activity was for development of training manuals for organisational development of NGOs, specifically Organisational Development and Resource Mobilisation.
ASIAN UNIVERSITY FOR WOMEN (AUW)/ TNS INDIA
AUW is an all women university being planned to be established in Bangladesh for the Asians. The study included over 150 in-depth interviews with embassies, public corporations, educationists, private sector employers, students and parents to assess the concept of the university among Nepalese. The study was undertaken as representative for global research company TNS (previously known as Taylor Nelson Sofres) in Nepal. The adaptation and the implementation of the survey were done along the lines of standards of TNS. TNS is one of the world's leading market information groups. They provide market measurement, analysis and insight through their global network of operating companies in 70 countries.
DALIT EMPOWERMENT AND INTEGRATION PROJECT (DEIP) - AN ESP PROJECT. ORGANISATIONAL AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT MANUAL

DALIT EMPOWERMENT AND INTEGRATION PROJECT (DEIP) - AN ESP PROJECT. MANAGEMENT AUDIT & ORGANISATIONAL ASSESSMENT
Solutions Consultant conducted management audit and organizational assessment of 6 National Dalit NGOs on behalf of DEIP. The objective of this assessment was to evaluate these 6 NGOs in order to develop suitable programs to develop and empower these organizations working with and for Dalits. The scope of work involved providing possible process improvements and systems to make these organizations more effective and efficient.
SNV NEPAL. INSTITUTIONAL ANALYSIS OF MINISTRY OF CULTURE, TOURISM AND CIVIL AVIATION (MOTCA)
As a support program of SNV/ Nepal for HMG of Nepal, carried out institutional analysis of MoTCA. The assignment involved assessment of institutional work flow processes within the ministry and subsequent design of work flow processes in association with experts from SNV/Nepal. The work also involved providing management support activities in conducting work flow process discussions and seminars with officials from the concerned Ministry.
